Husband of Fanny Gawthorne, of "Elleray," Plas Uchaf, Prestatyn, Flintshire. Son of Alfred and Sarah Jones Gawthorne nee Pinnock .
1911 he was residing with his parents and siblings at Denbigh Villa, Newbury, Berkshire.

Some notes from what remains of his army records.

He joined Royal Army Service Corps 14 January 1916 aged 27 years and 330 days at RASC Depot, Grove Park, Kent. Born at Newbury, Berkshire resided at Rencombe, Gloucestershire, occupation motor mechanic. He was on a medical Board 30 October 1916, to be discharged, cause of discharge, Tubercle of the Lung. He was discharged from the army 20 November 1916 as no longer physically fit for war service. It appears that he was under the medical supervision of the army when he died. He was last examined 14 January 1919. The recommendation at this time was to pass the case to M.S.Branch, regarding constant attendance. He was married 14 January 1916 to Miss Fanny Trinder at St Peter’s Church, Rencombe and was then residing at Ivy Cottage, Rencombe.
