Resided at Coldbrook Estate, near Abergavenny, Monmouthshire. Original surman was Hanbury. The additional name William was assumedunder the terms of a bequest from Charles Hanbury godfather Charles Williams. In May 1905 F. P. J. Hanbury-Williams gave up the name Hanbury-Williams and resumed the family name of Hanbury. The family originated from Pontypool
