Hales WILKIE. Major General, Commanding Infantry Brigade, Malta. Died 23rd December 1891 aged 54. This cross is erected in loving memory by his sorrowing wife, Eleanor.
He married Eleanor Walker aged 23 of Bury on the 22nd May 1861 at St Pauls Church, Bury. He was aged 24, Captain son of Edward Charles Hales and Mary Wilkie. He was born on the 27th January 1837. At rest in Ta Braxia Cemetery, Malta.

8th April 1858 he was Captain of the 97th Regiment, Brigadier Frank's Division, Lucknow, Oude, India.
1863 he was Major, Commanding Officer of the 29th Regiment (Worcestershire)
In 1881 he was now a Colonel , Commanding 46, (looks like Bripod) Depot. He was at his widowed mother's home at Ellington House, Ramsgate.
He was living with his wife and daughter at Auberge D'Aragon Strade Vescovo, Valletta, Malta in 1888

His wife is not mentioned.
I note on Ancestry Family Trees some researchers have his death in 1911, not the correct. The person who died in 1911 was Edward Hales Wilkie his brother.
