He attested at Lichfield 3rd November 1915, and gave his aged as 21years and 3 months, occupation, Pattern Maker (Pottery)
On the 30th October 1915 in Burslem, (location not known, but are mostly in Drill Halls)
He embarked for France from Southampton 20th May 1916, joined his regiment 1st Garrison Battalion, North Staffords at Boulogne the same day.
He was attached to the 61st B.G. Workshop, R.E. ( 61stm Broad gauge railway workshop, Royal Engineers.
On the 7th April 1917. He applied for a transfer to the Royal Engineers and was excepted and was given the number 308368, but due to his illness he did not transfer.
On the 2nd July 1917 he left France to England were he fell ill with T.B. to both lungs.
He was admitted to Bradford War Hospital, on the 24th July 1917 and died at 04.40pm 29th July 1917
His body was released on the 1st August to his home at 186, Newcastle Street, and laid to rest with full military honours on Thursday the 2nd August 1917
