John Swire Griffiths, CB, CBE, graduated County Technical College in Carmarthenshire and London University.In the firstWorld War he served in the Royal Welch Fusiliers and the regiment.He participated in the landings at Suvla Bay and subsequent operations in Gallipoli in which he was wounded. Then he was deployed in the Western Desert and Palestine. The war ended as a staff captain at 159Brigade.
In 1922 he was transferred to the Air Force and served between the wars in Iraq and Aden.At the beginning of the secondWorld War was transferred to the Army Co-Operation Command.1942 - 1945 he served in India and Southeast Asia.In 1943 he was promoted to Air Commodore 1944 awarded the CBE After the war he served on the Air Ministry, 1948 awarded the CB Retired in 1952, died in August of 1969 and is buried in St Mary's cemetery, Amersham, Buckinghamshire
