Gordon SMELLIE. Son of Rose and Sergeant Robert Smellie, Medical Staff Corps died 14 March 1895 aged 1 year and 5 months

His parents were Sergeant 4781 Robert Smellie, Army Staff Corps later the Royal Army Medical Corps and Rosetta Clara nee Baily. They were married in 1893, and registered in the district of St George Hanover Square, London.
They had another child born in Malta in 1897, called Donald.
In 1901 Robert was serving in South Africa from 1899 - 1902. He wife was living with Donald aged 4 at 43 Holly Road, Chicwick, West London. Robert, a Staff Sergeant with the Royal Army Medical Corps was in the Boer War campaign where he worked in many medical establishments.
11th Brigade Bearer Company 11th May 1900.
8th Brigade Bearer Company 21st May 1900 and then 8th Field Hospital 5th Division
10th Brigade Field Hospital 5th June 1900.
Princess Christian Hospital from 16th August 1900 - 27th November 1900
5th Divisional Field Hospital 1st January 1901.
It appears he was discharged on his 2nd period of engagement with the colours on the 30th September 1902.
His South African Medal 1899-1902 had the following clasp locations, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, Tugela Heights, Relief of Lady Smith and Laing Nek
In 1911 Robert, 1st Class Staff Sergeant died 19th March 1911. His effects went to his widow Rosetta Clara. He was living at 1 Belgrave Street, Swindon, Wiltshire with his wife and son, Donald aged 14. On the 10th April 1950 Rosetta Clara Smellie died at Hillingdon Hospital, Uxbridge, Middlesex. She was residing at 1 Belgrave Street, Swindon, Wiltshire. Her effects went to her son, Donald, a marine engineer.
