Gertrude DERVAN. Sister 266750, QAIMNS.
Born 1918 to Martin and Ellen Dervan, of Loughrea, Co. Galway. She was a passenger troopship SS Khedive Ismail 6 February 1944 when the ship left Kilindini Harbour, Mombasa, Keyna bound for Colombo, Ceylon and was part on Convoy KR-8. Saturday afternoon 12 February 1944 the ship was torpedoed and sunk by a Japanese B1 type submarine in the Indian Ocean, commanded by Lt-Commander Toshiaki Fukumura, she died that day aged 26.
Commemorated on the Brookwood 1939-1945 Memorial, Surrey.
