Brückenleger Before the outbreak of the Second World War, several methods of overcoming water barriers and fortifications were considered in Germany. One of the necessary vehicles, according to the Wehrmacht command, was a bridgelayer, whose main task was to overcome obstacles such as anti-tank ditches, streams, small rivers with a deep channel. By 1939, the Waffenamt (Department of Armaments) decided to develop a Brückenleger bridgelayer on a standard tank chassis.
