New entry (Iinformation sent to me)

On the morning of the 10th of April 1974 an IRA gunman entered the kitchen area of The Earl of Erne Primary School in the village of Teemore County Fermanagh and shot dead Major George Saunderson (Brevet Lt/Col) in front of his family.

Lt/Col Saunderson was the father of L/Cpl. William (Bill) Saunderson, 5th Royal Ennniskillen Dragoon Guards. Bill had previously been the J/RSM of The Junior Leaders Regiment.

Bill was in my troop and we served seven terms together, I consider him a friend. He was the finest young man I have ever been my pleasure to meet, one that I would have done well to emulate. He was also one of the strongest people I have ever known. Once at Shaw Bridge on Dartmoor at the end of a "scramble" I was so exhausted I could not pull myself up a rope onto a tree branch which led to another rope across the river, Bill picked me up by my clothing and hoisted me up, about 4ft. Onto the tree branch. He was an inspiration to us all.
