George TOMKINSON. Private 5055483, 8th [H.D.] Cheshire Regiment died between the 12 and 13th March 1941 age 22. Son of George and Ada nee Wheat and husband of Gladys nee Beech of Blurton, who he married in 1940. His parents married 12 June 1915 at Stoke Registry Office, address given as 23 Clyde Street, Fenton.

Information re his Father -
His father George, enlisted in North Staffordshire Regiment, No.20099 aged 31 years, coal miner, 31 January 1916, discharged 3 February 1916 “not likely to become an efficient soldier”. He was then called up for service into Army Service Corps (MT) No.281877 as Silas George Tomkinson, born 22 August 1884, on 29 December 1916 address 191 Duke Street, Fenton, occupation Traction Engine Driver, previous service Scottish Borderers?(no record of this service) age 31 years and 4 months, 2 addresses given - 191 Duke Street, Fenton and 26 Clyde Street, Heron Cross, Fenton. Next of kin Florence Ada Tomkinson, nee Wheat. At this time, they had one child, Reginald. He was then posted to the Army reserve for mobilisation and 3 January 1917 he was posted to Army Service Corp Depot at Grove Park.
His record shows he did home duty from 24 June 1916 to 16 April 1917. He was discharged, no longer physically fit for War Service 16 April 1917 due to chronic bronchitis. He was awarded a Silver War Badge 18 April 1917. He died June 1948. His wife Ada died 1970 aged 76 years.
