2nd Lieutenant, Royal Garrison Artillery. Joined in 1915, fought at the Somme with 40th Seige Battery R.G.A then later at Arras with 515 Seige Battery R.G.A. Left the army in January 1919. He and his friend Andrew Comyn Irvine joined the first Everest Expedition, both were to die near the summit on the North face between the 8-9th June 1924. He was aged 37 and his friend 22. Both bodies were discovered on the 1st May 1999 by an expedition to find the remains. George was the husband of Ruth nee Turner. He was son of Herbert Leigh Mallory, Rector of Mobberley church then Canon of Chester Cathedral and Annie.
