George Frederick BEURLING DFC was killed on the 20th May 1948. The Norsman plane he was flying to join Israel's air force crashed near Rome. It was Beurling's 10th (and last) crash and he and another ex-Malta RAF Pilot Leonard J Cohen were burned beyond recognition
