GARDNER, Melville Willoughby

Corporal 6092, 3rd Reserve Cavalry Regiment (Dragoon Guards) station at Richmond. Died at Richmond 26th November 1916 aged 33 and is buried Richmond Cemetery, Surrey.
He is commemorated on his grandparents memorial in St Swithun's churchyard, brookthorpe, Gloucestershire

Some information from his Burnt Record
He joined up 21st July 1911 at Aldershot with the Corps of Dragoons, aged 19, occupation Farmer. He was serving with the Shropshire Yeomanry as Colour Sergeant.
His parents were Martin and Jessie of New Cottage Farm, Linton, near newent, Gloucestershire He was appointed Lance Corporal 18th November 1914 and Corporal 8th March 1915 with the 3rd Reserve Cavalry Regiment. He served in France and Egypt, 1914-15.
On the 22nd May 1916 in Richmond, he fell of a horse and on doing so injured his back and he was unable to move any part. (See accident report)

He was in Ward B11, Military Hospital, Canterberry from where he was discharged from the army on the 6th July 1916 after serving 4years and 353days with Total Disablement
