G051 JOHN WILLIAM GOODSON BOXHALL. Master 11496, Mercantile Marine on S.S. England. Born 1889 at Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire to Frederick Goodson and Rebecca Boxhall, nee Groves. 1891 and 1901 residing with his parents and siblings at 1 Victoria Buildings, Trinity House and Yard, father’s occupation, Master, Mercantile Marine. He passed his 2nd Mate Course and awarded his certificate 14 August 1909 and First Mate certificate 6 March 1911. In 1911 residing with his parents and siblings at 165 Colman Street, Hull, occupation aged 21, clerk with Mercantile Marine. On the 2 October 1913 at Hull he married Kathleen Cantillon. Died 23 May 1917 when his ship was sunk by gun fire by two enemy submarines 60 Miles from land in the Mediterranean three crew were killed.

At rest in Plot G grave 51 Capuccini Naval Cemetery, Malta.

Chief Officer S.S. England, son of Thomas MacDonald and Robina, daughter of Robert Brock. Born Orkney 27 November 1883, educated at Orkney, served his apprenticeship on Sailing Ships, Bracadale and Clydesdale. Appointed Junior Officer on the Ben Boats, sailing out of Leith to Japan and later to S.S. England and was lost at sea when the ship was sunk by gun fire by two enemy submarines 60 Miles from land in the Mediterranean. He was married at St Columba’s London 5 January 1912 Mary Smith who resided at 11 Polwarth Gardens, Edinburgh) daughter of Andrew Brewster.
