- G098 JOHN NICHOLSON. Lieutenant, Pilot Royal Navy on HMS Courageous. Born 1 May 1901, only son to Major Henry Scoble Nicholson and Frederica Georgina Nicholson, nee Lister, late of South India and Ceylon. He married in September 1927 Miss Mariel Collen of Abingdon Road, South Kensington, London. Drowned 25th June 1928 aged 27 as a result of a flying accident at Malta, Dart machine of No.463 (Fleet Torpedo) Flight, HMS Courageous, pilot and sole occupant. Taking off from carrier, starboard wingtip fouled something on deck causing machine to tilt and crash overboard.
At rest in Plot G grave 98 Capuccini Naval Cemetery, Malta.
