G088 GIBSON WILLIAM SIMPSON. Lieutenant 191276 Royal Navy on HMS Medusa. Born 25 June 1881 at St Anbyn, Devon. Enlisted 7 November 1896 on HMS St Vincent at Chatham as Boy 2nd class. 1901 on HMS Illustrious in Malta. He went up through the ranks and promoted to Acting Gunner 1 September 1906. 1911 at Portsea with the Royal Navy, rank Gunner. Died in Royal Naval Hospital, Bighi, Malta 26th March 1926 aged 45 years from alcoholism and fatty degeneration of liver.
Memorial erected by the Officers and Ship’s Company of H.M.S. Medusa as a token of esteem. Gone but not forgotten.
