G050 SAMUEL WILSON MARKHAM (1)

G050 SAMUEL WILSON MARKHAM. Master Mercantile Marine on cargo ship S.S. Bellorado. Born 29 May 1870 at Kippford, Scotland to Charles and Margaret Markham. 1881 and 1891 residing with his mother and sister at Pri House, Urr, Dalbeattie, Kirkcudbrightshire. He passed his Masters Course, awarded his certificate 24 November 1894. Died on his ship through enemy action 27 February 1917 when the ship was fired upon by German submarine UC22 the same day near Malta, en-route from Barry, South Wales to Alexandria. Wills and Admin, Ancestry shows that his mother had remarried and was called Hazelhurst. His effects went to his mother.
He is commemorated on a family memorial at Dalbeattie Cemetery, Dalbeattie, Scotland.

At rest in Plot G grave 50 Capuccini Naval Cemetery, Malta.
