G043 WILLIAM RUDOLF CENTER. M.B. Fleet Surgeon, HMS Russell, from Aberdeenshire. Born 18 January 1871, to William F Center and Maria Adele Bertha, baptised 3 February 1871 at Gwailior, Bengal, India 1871. 1901 Stationed at Melville Hospital, Chatham, Kent. Occupation Surgeon, Royal Navy. Married Zoe Clara Blakeway in 1908 St Michael Church, Horton, Staffordshire. 1911 he and his wife were guests at the Alexander Hotel, Hyde Park Corner, London. Occupation, Staff Surgeon, Royal Navy. Died Royal Naval Hospital, Bighi, Malta 28th April 1916 aged 48 of extensive burns and gas poisoning on the sinking of his ship by a mine on the 27 April which was laid by German Submarine U73. His widow of 108 Queens Road, Aberdeen was informed of his death.
