- G016 WELLESLEY JOHN STEIL. Engineer Lieutenant, Royal Navy on HMS Stag. Born 1873 in Portsea, Hampshire to William Henry (retired chief engineer R.N.) and Louisa Maria Steil, nee Spriggs. 1881 residing with his parents and siblings at 493 Battersea Park Road, Battersea, London. He married Edith Elizabeth Julia Steil in 1898 at Portsea, Hampshire. Died in Royal Navy Hospital, Bighi, Malta 28th April 1907 aged 33 years of enteric fever. Memorial erected by the Officers and ship's Company in token of their deep sympathy and respect.
