Frederick William DEANE. D.F.C., Croix De Guerre, Flying Officer, 56 Squadron, Royal Air Force, Aboukir drowned when aircraft Snipe E647 he was crew of crashed into the sea at Aboukir,
Egypt 25th April 1921. He was the son of Frederick James and Catherine Jane of Sunnymeade, Knock, County Down, and brother of Arthur Denman who also fell. He is commemorated on his parent’s memorial in Dundonald Cemetery, County Down, Northern Ireland. He is at rest in Chatby Military and War Memorial Cemetery, Alexandria, Egypt.

Lieut. (A./Capt.) Frederick William Deane (Royal Irish Rifles.), Air Raid Service.
An exceptionally able officer, who has taken part in numerous hostile air raids by day and night. On the night of 19/20th May, when at 10,000 feet altitude, his machine took fire; with rare presence of
mind and cool courage Captain Deane brought it down in safety, thereby saving the life of his observer
