CATLING Frederick Harrod . Lance Corporal, 7583, 2nd, The Buffs, East Kent Regiment. He died in Malta on the 26th December 1917, aged 34 years. He was the son of Augustus and Amelia Catling, of Woolwich, Kent, and husband of Florence Marie Catling, of 96 Effingham Road, Lee, London. Inscribed on his memorial, "Sorrow vanquished, Labour ended, Jordan passed, ever loved" Some notes from remains of his army record. He joined up aged 34 on the 2nd June 1915 and was posted the same day to the Depot. His was by occupation a Tram driver and he lived with his wife and children at 96 Effingham Road, Lee, London. He married Florence Muckle at Woolwich Registry Office on the 18th of April 1911. They had two children, Frederick Harrod born 15th March 1912 in the registration district of Greenwich and Amelia, born 1st July 1916 in the registration district of Woolwich. His mother Amelia Jane was living at 31a Brewer Street, Woolwich. On the 6th June 1915 he was posted to the 3rd Battalion and on the 5th October 1915 he was posted to the 2nd Battalion. Promoted to unpaid Lance Corporal on the 17th May 1916 and paid Lance Corporal on the 25th June 1916. He served with the British Expeditionary Force in France from the 5th October 1915 to the 22nd October 1915 and the to the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force from the 22nd October to his death in Malta. His cause of death and what hospital he died in is not recorded.
JONES William John. Gunner, 97497, 1st Coy., Royal Garrison Artillery, died 17th February 1918. He was the son of Mrs. Elizabeth Jones, of 47 Victoria Place, Abergavenny South Wales.

RIDSDALE Harold Newham. Private, 25102, 1st Garrison Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers, formerly 26280, Yorkshire Regiment died 3rd March 1918, aged 25 years. He was born at Thornby, Yorkshire and was the stepson of Charles Edward and his mother Annie Elizabeth Whaly, formerly Ridsdale of 12 Brereton Avenue, Cleethorpes Lincolnshire. In 1911 he was living with his stepfather and mother at 14, Ayrsome Street, Middlesborough, North Riding, Yorkshire. His father may have been Thomas and his mother's maiden name Wharton, married in 1892 at Wetherby.
