BURT Frederick. Private, 15087, 2nd Norfolk Regiment attached to the 6th Royal Dublin Fusilers He was taken ill in Salonica and died in Malta on the 26th August 1916. He was born at Bunwell, Norwich, Norfolk, to James and Rebecca of Mile Road, Carleton, Attleborough, Norfolk. Some notes from what remains of his army record. He joined up on the 15th September 1915, gave his date of birth as 19th April 1891, aged 23 and by occupation was a milkman. On the 29th September 1916 he was part of a draft of the 6th Royal Dublin Fusiliers bout for Mesopotamia but they were directed to Salonica. Whilst in Salonica he taken ill and was admitted to the Canadian General Hospital, Salonica on the 24th April 1916 and on the 14th May 1916 was admitted into St David's Hospital, Malta suffering from Myalgia. It was discovered while at the hospital that he had perforation of the intestine, duodenum. An operation was performed by Colonel W Thornburn on the 19th July 1916. He then developed general peritonitis and died on the 26th July 1916. The post mortem examination gave the findings as Tubercle. St David's Hospital closed in 1917.
ROBBINS George. Private, 06630, 18th S Coy., Royal Army Ordnance Corps. Died of malaria in Malta, 25th August 1916, aged 22 years. He was the son of Frederick and Elizabeth Jackson and was the husband of Olive Robbins, of 38 Catherine Street, Knowle Park, Keighley, Yorkshire . Inscribed on his stone "Ever in our thoughts, safe in God's keeping."
HELSON John Edwin. Rifleman, 519, 22nd The Rifle Brigade, formerly 213 1st Monmouthshire Regiment, died 22nd August 1916. He was born on the 19th October 1869 in Newbridge, Kildare, Ireland to John and Emily of Kildare, Ireland. In 1881 he was living with his mother and stepfather Private Mark Barrington of the Regular Forces, in a married quarters at the Brigade Depot Barracks, No 41, Tilehurst, Berkshire. In 1911 his stepfather and mother were in a Soldiers Home, Manor Road, Wantage, Berkshire. Some notes from what remains of his army record. He joined up on the 29th October 1914 aged 45. He lived at 32 Lewis Street, Newport, Monmouthshire, Wales. He had previously served with the Royal Berkshire Regiment. His next of kin was his mother, Mrs Frances Emily Barrington of Prince Victor Cottages, Wantage, Berkshire. Date unknown, he was posted to the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force. On the 13th August 1916 he was admitted into Military Hospital Imtarfa, Malta and died on the 22nd August 1916 aged 47 at 3.am of Malaria contracted when on active service and due to Active Service conditions in Greece.
