FOWKES, Norman James, Late M7723 Engine Room Artificer. Royal Navy. Born 23rd October 1893. He died of his injuries as a result of a road traffic collision on the North Cave Road, Hull on the 10th May 1936. He was riding his bicycle along a side road and rode onto the bypass directly in front of a car. He sustained a fractures to his ribs and ankle and also had internal injuries. He was taken Hull Royal Infirmary but died soon after admission. His occupation was given as an Admiralty Engineer. He was about to retire from the navy after being stationed at Plymouth. He was lodging at Gladstone Street, Hull, and was looking for a house to live in with his wife in Hull. His wife Mabel Jane, nee Brown was living at 2, Myott Avenue, Newcastle-under-Lyme. He was the son of Edwin and Annie of 28, Gladstone Street, Basford, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire

The photo was taken in Sep 1917 aboard HMS Aquarius which I think was a depot/repair ship based at Mudros on the Greek island of Lemnos.
