John Barnabas HUTTON. Lieutenant, 5th South Staffordshire Regiment. Died 13th October 1915. He is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, France

Frank Alexander ROPPINGILLE, Lieutenant East Yorkshire Regiment attached to the 2nd West Riding Regiment. Died 11th November 1914. He was the son of Frank S Rippingille of Winchester House, Victoria Square, Birmingham. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.

Lawrence Jack PREEDY. 2nd Lieutenant Royal , 4th attached to the 1st Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Died 31st March 1918. He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France

Eric Arthur WALKER. 2nd Lieutenant, 9th attached to the 6th King's Shropshire Light Infantry. Died 29th December 1915 aged 20. He was the son of
Thomas and Theresa Walker, of 12, Church Rd., Edgbaston, Birmingham. He is at rest in Rue-Petillon Military Cemetery, Fleubraix, France.

John Morris WILLIAMS. Sergeant 31978 8th Machine Gun Corps (Infantry). Died 27th May 1918 aged 24. He was the son of Richard and Laura Williams, of Roughley, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. He is commemorated on the Soissons Memorial, France

Arthur JOHNSON. (Military Medal). Private 203036, 1st Royal Warwickshire Regiment, formerly Trooper 3434 Warwickshire Yeomanry, killed in action 4th October 1917. Native of Sutton Coldfield, Staffordshire.

William Alfred James BICKLEY. Driver 88181, L Battery, 15th Brigade, Royal Horse Artillery. Died 4th September 1918. He was the brother of Mr E Bickley of 2, West View, Lichfield Road, Four Oaks, Staffordshire. He is at rest in Pont-D'Achelles Military Cemetery, Nieppe, France.

Norman CROZIER, Private Northumberland Fusiliers . There is only one Norman Crozier listed with the CWGC.
Private S/365306, Norman CROZIER, Reserve Supply Personnel Depot (Bath), Army Service Corps. He lived at 55, Burnage Hall Road, Levenshulme, near Chester. He was last seen alive on the 15th January 1918 and he was found drowned on the 16th January 1918 in Southampton Docks, Southampton. He effects of 1320. went to Flora Criozier nee Crisp, his widow. He was born in 1885 to William Armstrong Crozier and Emily Bell Crozier of Sutton Coldfield. He is at rest in Sutton Coldfield Cemetery

Austin Vernon COLEMAN. Private 90806, 60th General Hospital, Royal Army Medical Corps died of Dysentery 17th October 1917 aged 20 at the hospital in which he was serving.
He was born at Edgebaston, Warwickshire and was the son of Frank Cobden and Gertrude Coleman, of 69, Station Road, Wylde Green, Birmingham. He is at rest in Kirechkoi-Hortakoi Military Cemetery, Greece.
Some notes from what remains of his army record.
He enlisted on the 26th May 1915 aged 19 years and 1 month, was a salesman, and he was living at Edgbaston with his parents. He embarked from Southampton with the 60th General Hospital on the 9th June 1917 and disembarked the next day at Le Havre. On the 21st June 1917 with 60th General Hospital he embarked Marseilles and on the 28th June 1917 disembarked at Salonika. He was admitted as a patient at 60 General Hospital on the 18th August 1917 suffering from dysentery and he died on the 17th October 1917 in the same hospital. His father who was his next of kin was living at 56, St Agnes Road, Mosely, Birmingham on the 14th February 1918 and on the 10th November 1919 was now living at 69, Station Road, Wylde Green, Sutton Coldfield, Warwickshire.

Edwin John NICHOLLS. Private 17207, 2nd Coldstream Guards. Killed in action 30th November 1917 aged 25. He was the son of Charles and Sarah. He is commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial, Louverval, France.

Alfred John TOY. Private 5188, 1/ 6th Royal Warwickshire Regiment killed in action 18th August 1916. He was native of Four Oaks, Birmingham and was the son of Alfred and Elizabeth of Sunnyside, Walsall Road, Four Oaks and later Blackberry Lane, Four Oaks. In 1911 he was by occupation a journeyman , cabinet maker. (Ajourneymanis an individual who has completed an apprenticeship and is fully educated in a trade or craft, but not yet a master) He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France

Charles John WASHBOURNE. Private 64387 13th Royal Fusiliers, formerly 16930, 20th Royal Fusiliers. Killed in action 16th November 1916 aged 33. He was the son of Albert and Ann of "Hindecliffe" Four Oaks. He is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial, Somme, France

Leysters Llewellyn GREENER. (Military Cross). Captain, 6th Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Died 5th December 1917. He is commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial, Louverval, France.

Russell Sandon TURNER. Captain, 5th Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Died 4th October 1917. He is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.

Oliver Vaughton ARNOLD. 2nd Lieutenant, Worcestershire Regiment. Died 11th August 1916 aged 28. he was the son of Charles Frederick Arnold, of Wentworth Cottage, Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield and he was the husband of Sybil Arnold, of 11, Winchester Rd., Swiss Cottage, London. he is at rest in Sutton Coldfield Cemetery, Staffordshire

George Russell Courteney MARTIN. Lieutenant 6th Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He died 1st July 1916. He was born on the 7th July 1891 and baptised on the 30th August 1906 at Christ Church, Folkestone, Kent. His parents were George and Marion Clementina nee McLean. He is at rest in Miraumont Communal Cemetery, Somme, France

Sidney Arnold TURNER-TAYLOR. 2nd Lieutenant 12th Worcestershire Regiment, attached to the 218th Machine gun Corps. Died 17th April 1917 aged 25. He was the elder son of Sidney Middleton Taylor and Mary Elizabeth Taylor, of Four Oaks, Warwickshire. Educated at Lickey Hills Schools and Uppingham. A director of Messrs. Heaton and Taylor, Ltd., of Birmingham. He joined the Royal Warwickshire Regt. at the outbreak of war and was gazetted to the Worcestershire Regt. in Jan., 1915. Previously wounded in the Autumn of that year at the Hohenzollern Redoubt. He is at rest in St Sever Cemetery, Rouen, France

Walter DANKS. Sergeant R/692, 10th King's Royal Rifle Corps. Died 3rd September 1916 aged 31. He was the son of Frederick and Ann of 11, Four Oaks Common Road, Sutton Coldfield. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France

Percy Harold HUMPHRIES. Lance Corporal (CWGC have Rifleman) 15th Royal Irish Rifles., formerly 7790 Royal Warwichshire Regiment. Died 4th August 1918. He was born at Edgbaston, Birmingham and was the son of Harry and Ellen Humphries. In 1911 he was living with his parent at Churchover Rugby, Churchover Brownsover and was working as a gardener. He is at rest in Bertenacre Military Cemetery, Fletre, France.

William C GOODWIN. Gunner 109975 Royal Garrison Artillery. Died 31st December 1918. He is at rest in St James The Great Churchyard, Hill, Warwickshire.

George STREATHER. Sapper 179307, 78th Field Company, Royal Engineers. Died of wounds 28th March 1918. He was born at Thrapston Northamptonshire and he is at rest in Doullens Communal Cemetery Extension No1 Somme, France.

Primrose Logan LARNACH. Private 202922, 2/6th Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Killed in action 5th December 1917. He was the son of John Logan and Mary Ann of Ivy Cottage, Belwell Lane, Four Oaks. He is commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial, Louverval, France

George LUCAS. Private 10523, 1/6th Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Died 27th August 1917. He was born in 1888 to William Henry and Rose of Clarence Road, Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield. He is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.

George Thomas BENNETT. Private 22477, 10th Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Died 25th February 1917 aged 33. He was the husband of Ada Jane nee Barber of 1, Oak Cottages, Warstock near Birmingham. He is at rest in Puchevillers British Cemetery, Somme, France.

Nathaniel Fuhrmann CLARKE. Lieutenant, Royal Flying Corps. Died 1st June 1917 aged 32. He was the son of Edward Clarke and was the husband of Anita B. Clarke, of 08, Oakwood Court, Kensington, London. He is at rest in Sutton Coldfield Cemetery, Staffordshire.

Roland BUSHELL. 2nd Lieutenant, A Battery, 232nd Army Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. Died 26th September 1917. He was the husband of M nee Ellis l of 58, Hagley Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham

Herbert Joseph REEVE. 2nd Lieutenant 1st Herefordshire Regiment. Died 24th September 1915 aged 20. He was the son of William James and M. A. E. Reeve, of "Grasmere" Clarence Road, Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. Born at King's Norton, Birmingham. He is at rest in Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta

William Worthington SANBY. 2nd Lieutenant 20th Northumberland Fusiliers . Died 1st July 1916 aged 21. He was the son of Arthur Hill Sanby and Ellen Sanby, of The Gables, Stratford-on-Avon. He lived at Wellfield, Hartopp Road, Sutton Coldfield died in France. His effects of 67 9s 9d to Arthur Hill Sandby, commission agent.

Sydney Joseph WINKLEY. 2nd Lieutenant, 1/ 6th Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Died 1st July 1916. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

Harold Ernest SANDBY. Sergeant,B/1626 9th Rifle BrigadeHe was the son of Arthur Hill Sanby and Ellen Sanby, of The Gables, Stratford-on-Avon. His brother William Worthington also fell. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium. (Wills and Admin, on Ancestry.co.uk) He lived at Brundretts Road, Chorlton-cum-Hardy near Manchester, died 9th March 1915 in Flanders killed in action. He effects of 736 11s 10d to Thomas Wilson.

William LAKIN. Gunner 91995, 230 Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. Killled in action 24th August 1917. He was born at Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield. He married Emily Lucas on the 26th November 1903 at Little Aston Church, Shenstone. They lived with their 5 children at Clarence Road, Sutton Coldfield. He enlisted aged 33 on the 13th June 1916. Served in France from the 11th July 1917 and was killed in action on the 24th August 1917. He is at rest in China Wall, Perth Cemetery, Belgium.

John CASHMORE. Private 4766 9th Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Died 10th August 1915 aged 21. He was the son of William Charles and Emma of, 9, Four Oaks Common Road, Four Oaks Common, Warwickshire. He is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Turkey (including Gallipoli).

William GILBERT. Private 28009, 10th Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Died of wounds 28th March 1918 aged 22. He was the son of Mr and Mrs John Gilbert of, 2, Station Road, Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield. He is at rest in Denain Communal Cemetery, France.

George SIMPSON. Private (Rifleman) 52469 West Yorkshire Regiment. Died 26th May 1918 aged 36. He was the son of William and Mary Ann Simpson, of Coleshill, Warwickshire and he was the husband of Beatrice Simpson, of 5, Hill Village Road, Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. he is at rest in Bagneux british Cemetery, Gezaincourt, Somme, France.

Robert William WALDRON. Private 16314, 15th Entrenching Battalion formerly 11th Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Died of wounds 22nd March 1918 aged 23. He was the son of William and F. Waldron, of Clarence Road, Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. He is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, Somme, France.

Arthur Coke HODSON. Private S/11565, 11th Rifle Brigade. Died 13th February 1916 aged 38. He was the son of Charles James and Mary Southwick Hodson, of Berwyn House, Walsall Road, Four Oaks, Birmingham. Native of Birmingham. he is at rest in Etaples Military Cemetery, France.

Charles TURNER. Private 2870, 2nd Garrison Battalion, Odford and Bucks Light Infantry died 4th April 1917 aged 27. He was the son of John and Elizabeth Turner, of the Almshouses, Mere Green, Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham and was the husband of Clara Turner (nee Watkins). He is at rest in Noeux-Les-Mines Communal Cemetery, France.

Sydney MANNALL. Private 895497, 5th Canadian Infantry. Died 29th September 1917 aged 24. He was born on the 28th March 1892 to Samuel and Catherine Mannall, of Chestnut Cottage, Mere Green Road, Four Oaks, Birmingham. He is at rest in Noeux-Les-Mines Communal Cemetery Extension, France.

William John CAMPBELL. 2nd Lieutenant, Royal garrison Artillery. Died 25th May 1915 aged 36. He was the son of
William and Elizabeth Campbell, of Hedge End, Southampton and was the husband of Amy Gertrude Campbell, of "Cobo" Lichfield Road, Four Oaks, Birmingham. he is at rest in Kranji War Cemetery, Singapore.

Thomas Richard CUSSONS. Private 1211936, 1st Auckland Regiment, N.Z.E F. Died of wounds on the 22nd September 1916 aged 31. He was the son of John Thomas and Annie of 14, Jordan Road, Four Oaks, Birmingham. His address in New Zealand at the time of his enlistment was the Post Office, Hautapu, New Zealand. He embarked on the 17th April 1915 with the 4th Reinforcement from Wellington, New Zealand bound for Suez, Egypt. Disembarking on the 25th May 1915. He was native of Beverley, and is at rest in St Sever Cemetery, Rouen, France

Owen OLIVER. Private 20306. 1st Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Died of wounds on the 27th December 1916 aged 41. He was the son of Thomas and Mary Agnes Oliver, of Birmingham and was the husband of Helen Oliver, of Hill Village Rd., Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. He is at rest in St Severs Cemetery Extension, Rouen, France.

Edward Baguley MARWICK. Corporal 28798, 2nd Signal Coy, Royal Engineers. Died 9th November 1918 aged 22. He was the son of Edward and Elizabeth Annie Markwick, of "Broadfields," Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. Native of Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. He is at rest in Awoingt British Cemetery, France

Myles John Chislett LITTLE. Sergeant 7443, C Company, North Staffordshire Regiment. Died 5th September 1916 aged 33. he was the son of Simpson Little, of Northallerton, Yorks and he was the husband of Louisa May Little, of Four Oaks Common, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. He is at rest in Delville Wood cemetery, Longueval, Somme, France.

Philip Edward LINDNER. Lieutenant, 66th Wing, Royal Air Force. Died 21st July 1918 aged 30. He was the son of
Son of Frederick William and Lucy Jane Lindner; husband of Stephanie Gertrude Bigwood (formerly Lindner), of "The Wallands" Lichfield Rd., Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. He was awarded the Bronze Medal for Military Valour (Italy). He is at rest in Lambet Road Military Cemetery, Salonika, Greece.

Reginald Bertram Clive CHOPPING. Private 163, 15th Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Died 28th August 1916 aged 23. He was the son of Walter Clive Chopping and Alice Maud Reynold Chopping, of "Fairlight" Lichfield Road, Four Oaks, Birmingham. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

Philip Aubrey HILL. Captain, 2nd South Wales Borderers. Died 23rd April 1917 aged 43. He was the son of Dr. P. E. Hill, of Latham House, Crickhowell, Brecknockshire and he was the husband of Ethel G. Hill, of Crossway Cottage, Four Oaks, Warwickshire. He is Commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.

William Leslie ONIONS. Private 816, a Company, 14th Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Killed in action 23rd July 1916 aged 22. He was the son of William John and Evelyn Alice Onions, of "Hillside", Lichfield Rd., Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

Charles WEBB. Rifleman S/11321, 7th Rifle Brigade, formerly 62656, Royal Field Artillery. Died 28th October 1918 aged 22. He was the son of Alfred and Hannah Webb, of Drakeford Cottage, Tower Road Hill, Four Oaks, Birmingham. He is at rest in Berlin South Western Cemetery, Berlin.

George Nelson CHAMBERLAIN. Corporal M2/10021, 629th Coy attached to 27th Motor Ambulance Convoy, Army Service Corps. Died 28th August 1917 aged 28. He was the husband of Elizabeth A of Half Way House, Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield, Warwickshire. He is at rest in Rocquigny-Equancourt Road, British Cemetery, Manacourt, Somme, France.

Joseph William ORAM. Rifleman 6157, 1/8th West Yorkshire Regiment. Died 18th February 1917 aged 28. He was the son Mr. and Mrs. John Oram, of The Homestead, Shenstone, Lichfield and was the husband of Annie Oram, of "Hill Side", Lichfield Rd., Four Oaks, Birmingham. He is at rest in Humbercamps Communal Cemetery Extension, France.

Arthur William Thomas UTTON. Air Mechanic 3rd Class, Photographic Section, Royal Air Force. Died 25th January 1919 aged 39. He was the husband of
Florence May Utton, of Gothic Cottage, Mere Green Rd., Four Oaks, Warwickshire. He is at rest in Bromsgrove Cemetery, Worcestershire.

Albert William CLARKE. Private 52283, 2nd Worcestershire Regiment. Died 4th July 1918 aged 19. He was the son of Albert John and Sarah Alice Clarke, of "The Beeches" Lichfield Road, Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. Born Allesley, Coventry. He is at rest in Nine Elms British Cemetery, Belgium.

Herbert William GREEN. 2nd Lieutenant, 5th (Cinque Ports) Battalion (Territorial) Royal Sussex Regiment killed in action on the 16th August 1917 aged 34. He was the son of Mrs. Green (now Stanton), of The Cottage, Sherifoot Lane, Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield. and the late William Green. He is at rest in Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetery, Belgium.

Samuel John BINNELL. Private 47971, 7th Northamptonshire Regiment. Died 28th March 1918 aged 36. He was the son of Thomas T. and the late Agnes Binnell; husband of Ellen Binnell, of 2, Grange Avenue, Tower Road, Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield. Birmingham.
He is at rest in Caix british Cemetery, Somme, France.

Bert Harold HUMPHRIS (HUMPHRIES). Rifleman 52310
1st Royal Irish Rifles, Royal warwickshire Regiment. Killed in action 15th October 1918 aged 26. He was the son of George Frederick and Emma Humphris, of 7, Common Road, Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham.
He is at rest in Dadizeele New British Cemetery, Belgium.

Frederick STREATHER. Private 43501, 9th, North Irish Horse, Royal Irish Fusiliers, formerly 41272, Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Killed in action 11th October 1918 aged 19. He was the son of Charles Herbert and Elizabeth Streather, of Heathfield Cottage, Walsall Rd., Four Oaks Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. He is at rest in Dadizeele New British Cemetery, Belgium.
Some notes from what remains of his army record.
He joined up on the 10th October 1917 and was post to 52nd Training Reserve Battalion (Royal Warwickshire Regiment as Private 15518 aged 18 years. He gave his occupation as a bricklayer, and his father Charles Herbert as his next of kin and his home with his parents and siblings at Mauntley, Mere Green Road, Four Oakes . He embarked for France on the 1st April 1918 disembarking the next day. While in France he was transferred several times. 1st May 1918 he was sent to 16th Royal Irish Rifles as private 25632 and joined them in the field at Rouen, France. On the 6th July 1918 to the 9th Royal Irish Fusiliers as Private 43501 and joined D Company in the field. He was killed in action on the 11th October 1918 and buried (location not given) He body was later exhumed and re-interred into the above named cemetery.

Horace GREATREX. Private 78754, 1st Royal Fusiliers, formerly 1832, 23rd Middlesex Regiment. Died 11th October 1918 aged 22. He was the son of Samuel and Annie Greatrex, of Hill Village Road, Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. He is at rest in St. Aubert British Cemetery, France.

Walter Thomas DEEMAN. Private 291219, 16th (Royal Devon and Royal North Devon Yeomanry)Devonshire Regiment. Died 2nd September 1918 aged 21. He was the son of Thomas and Annie Deeman, of The Cottage, Sherifoot Lane, Hill, Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. He is commemorated on the Vis-En-Artois Memorial, France.

Owen William HILL. Rifleman 12516, 12th King's Royal Rifle Corps. Died 25th Janaury 1917 aged 19. He was the son of William and Elizabeth Hill, of Hill Wood, Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. He is at rest in Sailly-Saillisel British Cemetery, Somme, France

Frederick Henry COBB. Corporal 91642 1/6th Durham Light Infantry. Died 1st November 1918 at Prisoner of War Camp Hospital at Quedlingburg Germany. He was born at King's Lyn, Norfolk and lived at Belwell House Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield.. His effects of 210.10s 0d went to Eviline Alice Cobb, widow. He is at rest in Niederzwehren Cemetery, Hessen, Germany.

Harold Graham MAYO. Lance Corporal 6292, 61st Company, Machine Gun Corps, Infantry, formerly S/9962 Rifle Brigade. Killed in action 30th November 1917. He was native of Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield and was the son of Elizabeth Mayo, of 13, Church Lane, Mere Green, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, and the late Herbert Mayo.
He is commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial, Louverval, France.

Thomas SMITH. Private 5935, 1/8th Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Killed in action 27th July 1916. He was born at Ross, Herefordshire and lived at Four Oak, Birmingham. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

William Henry TOMBS. Private 41210, 1st Worcestershire Regiment. Killed in action 31st July 1917. He was born in Walsall and lived at Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield. He is at rest in Zantvoorde British Cemetery, Belgium.

Albert Edward WAKEFIELD. Private 41382, 1/7th Worcestershire Regiment. Killed in action 17th August 1917. he was born at Boldmere, Warwickshire and lived at Four Oaks, also Warwickshire. He is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.
