F091 HUBERT REGINALD GARDNER. Corporal, RMB/X59, Royal Marine Band, HMS of Neptune. Born 8 May 1912 at Portsmouth, Hampshire to William Henry and Harriett Gardner nee Sacfee of Milton, Southsea, Hampshire. Died on HMS St Angelo, shore base, Malta 25th February 1942 aged 29 year of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.


F091 ERNEST LYNCH. Able Seaman D/JX204438 Royal Navy on HMS Avon Vale. (L06). Born 28 March 1918 at Atherton Lancashire to James and Bertha Lynch, nee Taylor of Marton, Blackpool, Lancashire. Died 26th March 1942 aged 23 years on board his ship. At 1632 hrs 50 JU 88s droped bombs on Grand Harbour. Various ships and on submarine were hit. Avon Vale was hit, damage not very serious. Three lost their lives on Avon Vale and one on HMS Legion.


F091 AUGUSTUS WILLIAM RENDELL Leading Seaman, LT/JX211500, Royal Naval Patrol Service of HM Whaler Swona. Born 14 February 1916 to John Joseph and Selina Rendell, of Bonavista Bay, Newfoundland. Accidental drowning 14th February 1942 aged 26 years after falling from Liberty Boat in Malta.


F091 EDGAR SOUTHWOOD. Able Seaman D/JX194375 Royal Navy on HMS St.Angelo shore base, Malta. Born 6 May 1920 at Newport, Monmouthshire to William Edmund and Esther Southwood, nee James of Patchway, Bristol. Died 22nd February 1942 aged 21 years as the result of enemy bombing over the Grand Harbour, Malta.


F091 IVOR FREDERICK DONALD WHITTY. Able Seaman D/JX158566, HMS Avon Vale (L06). Born 3 December 1922 at Topsham, Devon to Frederick and Lilian Maud Whitty, nee Pate of Westminster, London. Died 26th March 1942 aged 19 years on board his ship. At 1632 hrs 50 JU 88s drop bombs on Grand Harbour. Various ships and on submarine were hit. Avon Vale was hit, damage not very serious. Three lost their lives on Avon Vale and one on HMS Legion.
