F045 LESLIE BOOKER BUTLER. Sergeant, Wireless Operator/Air Gunner, 1051918, Royal Air Force (VR). Born 1919 to George Booker and Anne Maud Butler of Dublin. Died 16th June 1941 aged 25 years.


F045 ARTHUR JAMES SALTER. Leading Aircraftman, 135188, Royal Air Force (VR), 2934 Squadron, Royal Airforce Regiment. Born 1912 to George and Catherine Salter, of Grangetown, Cardiff. Died 21st October 1943 aged 31 years.


F045 CHARLES HENRY MCKENZIE DANIELL. Flight-Sergeant, 414207, Royal Australian Air Force attached to 108 Squadron, RAF, at RAF Luqa, Malta. Born 25 January 1922 to Charles Esmond and Inez Desmond Daniell, nee Butler of Cholorea Avenue, Broadbeach, Southport, Queensland, Australia. He enlisted 17 August 1941 at No 3 Recruiting Centre Creek Street in Brisbane’s City Centre, Queensland aged 19 years. Residence 54 Enderley Avenue, Hamilton, Brisbane. Previously served with Brisbane High School Cadet Force for 3 years from June 1935 to June 1938 as Cadet Driver with 7 Field Ambulance, Australian Army Medical Corps. He embarked from Sydney to Canada and U.K. 24 April 1942. He was promoted to Flight Sergeant Pilot 1 September 1943. On the 14 December 1942 he was piloting a Beaufighter aircraft after completing a test flight.
Witness report to what was seen -

He was attempting to land at RAF Luqu with his starboard (right) engine cut out and airscrew feathering. It also appeared that a selection of the undercarriage in the down position was late and that the pilot, being uncertain whether the carriage had lock down, attempted to orbit again. The aircraft swung starboard after passing over the end of the runway and crashed 2.40pm. It was found the flaps were not in the down position. He was admitted to 45 General Hospital, Pembroke Garrison, Malta 14th December 1943 suffering from shock and extensive burns and fractured leg, he died the same day at 10-10pm. aged 21 years
