Evelyn Bessie JOHNS died at Malta 17th November 1903 aged 2 months.
Herbert Henry JOHNS died in Malta 6th July 1906 aged 8 months.

The children of Sergeant Herbert and Sarah Jane JOHNS, Royal Garrison Artillery.

Some notes from what remains of his army records.
He enlisted at the age of 22 on the 31st August 1895, occupation, Porter. He was born in 1874 at Woking, Surrey and was the son of Emma of 220 Portnall Road, Paddington, London who was his next of kin. His wife Sarah Jane nee Perry who he married on the 16th September 1900 at the New Cut Gospel Hall, Lambeth, London.
On the 2nd September 1895 he was posted to the Royal Artillery Depot, Dover as Gunner 11084. He was promoted to Acting Bombardier on the 24th September 1897, to Bombardier with 27 Company on the 13th January 1899, then Corporal, with the same Company on the 1st April 1900. He extended his service with the colours to complete 12 years on the 25th September 1901. The Royal Artillery was re-organized and re-titled on the 1st January 1902. He was now with the 40th Company, Royal Garrison Artillery.
12th September 1902 promoted to sergeant. 1st April 1904 he re-engaged to complete 21 years service with the colours whilst in Malta. He was promoted to WO2 Company Sergeant Major whilst in Ceylon on the 14th May 1914. On the 26th October 1918 he was posted b Battery, 5 F.C, Royal Garrison Artillery. 1st February 1919, still with5 F.C. Royal Garrison Artillery he volunteers to serve for one year under A.O. 55 of 1919 C.S.M. He finally left the army as C.S.M. with 5 F.C. R.G.A, on the 23rd December 1919 at Dover to his family at 5 Malt Villas, Preston near Weymouth, Dorsetshire. He had completed 24 years and 115 day. )Auth, well done that man)
He was posted to the following. Gibraltar from the 26th September 1901 to 9th November 1903, Malta from the 10th November 1903 (date of embarkation) to 23rd April 1908. Posted back to 30 Company in England on the 24th April 1908 to 9th November 1911. Posted to 93 Company, Ceylon on the 4th September 1911 (embarkation date) to 18th September 1915. Post back to 30 Company in England 19th September 1915 as Company Sergeant Major.

Frederick Charles born in Malta on the 5th July 1907 abd baptised in Malta on the 28th July 1907.
Minnie born in Weymouth on the 18th August 1908, baptised in Weymouth on the 18th September 1908.
Herbert Henry Barratt, born 26th February 1910 at Weymouth and baptised 9th April 1910 at Weymouth.
Evelyn Mary, born at Weymouth on the 25th July 1911 and baptised on the 11th August 1911.
Robert James, born at Preston, near Weymouth on the 16th October 1916 and baptised on the 10th November 1916.
Florence May, born 7th April 1918.

Sarah Jane Johns died 19th December 1954 aged 80. At the time of her death she was living at 6 Sydenham Crescent, Poole, Dorset, late of Preston, Dorset.

Herbert John JOHNS died 7th February 1942 aged 68 at Preston, Dorsetshire.
