Eveline Maud DAWSON. Acting Matron QAIMNSR

Born 17 May 1866 at Henry Street, Ballykeel, near Ballymena, Antrim, Ireland to Albert and Mary Dawson, nee Crozier

1901 she was on a Hospital Sick Nurse at the Great Northern Central Hospital, Holloway Road, London

Enlisted 5 August 1916, on duty on H.M.Hospital Ship, Salta. Drowned as the result of the sinking of HMHS Salta after hitting a mine in the English Channel, near Le Havre 10 April 1917 aged 49.

130 lost their lives. She was laid to rest 136 miles from Le Havre in Etaples Military Cemetery, France.

Wills and Admin, Ancestry -
Eveline Maud Dawson of Tiev Tara Hilltop Road, Herne Bay, Kent, spinster, died on date stated. Her effects went to her sister Mary Adelaide Senior, widow.

Extract from British Journal of Nursing 1918 –
Evelyn Maud Dawson. (Miss) Acting Matron QAIMNSR. Drowned as the result sinking of Salta by a mine in the English Channel. She worked for 8 years in St Catherine’s Hospital, Cawnpore. On the outbreak of war being at home she was called up at once as a member of the Imperial Nursing Services Reserve and for two years and eight months nursed sick and wounded first at Aldershot and later on-board hospital ships. At the time of her death, she was Matron on board Hospital Ship, Salta. She going to return to Cawnpore after the war.
