ADAMS Thomas William. Private 200689, P Company, 2/5th Sherwood Foresters, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment. Died 13th November 1917 aged 23. Son of Edward and Harriett Adams, of 5, Sherwood Street, Derby and brother of George Edward who also fell. At rest in Tourgeville Military Cemetery, France


ADAMS George Edward. Private, 15610, 1st Grenadier Guards. Died of wounds 16th September 1916 aged 27. Son of Edward and Harriett Adams, of 5, Sherwood Street, Derby and brother of Thomas William who also fell. At rest in Corbie Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France.


BURTON James. Private 2554, 1st Northumberland Fusiliers.

Died of wounds 15th July 1916 aged 25. At rest in Dive Copse British Cemetery, Sailly le Sec, Somme, France


BLOOD Thomas Richard. Private, 268884, 16th Sherwood Foresters, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment . Killed in action 20th September 1917 aged 37. Commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium


CHAPLIN Arthur. Lieutenant, 4th Brigade, Canadian Field Artillery.

Killed in action 3rd May 1917 aged 34. Son of Marmaduke Kay Chaplin and Fanny, of Etwall, England. Buried in La Targette British Cemetery, Neuville St. Vaast, France


CHAPLIN Humphrey Marmaduke. Lieutenant, 3rd attached 2nd Cheshire Regiment. Killed in action 11th May 1915 aged 23. Son of Marmaduke Kay Chaplin and Fanny, of Etwall, England. Commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium


DAWSON Alfred. Major, 14th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery.

Killed in action 20th May 1917 aged 30. Husband of Martha Martin (formerly Dawson), of 56, Crediton Hill, Hampstead, London.

Awarded the Military Cross and Chevalier of the Legion of Honour (France). Buried in Fosse No. 10 Communal Cemetery Extension, Sains en Gohelle, France


GARRATT William Henry. Private 25035, 8th North Staffordshire Regiment. Killed in action 19th November 1916 aged 24. Son of Elizabeth Garratt, of Bearwardcote Farm, Etwall, Derby, and the late Henry Garratt.

Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France


GRIFFEN (cwgc listed as GRIFFIN) James. Rifleman C/6364, 21st King's Royal Rifle Corps. His widow Ada now Willcocks was granted a war gratuity on the 2nd December 1919. Killed in action 8th August 1916 aged 31. Buried in Essex Farm Cemetery, Ypres


GREGSON Harold. Gunner 314628, 91st Heavy Battery (South Midland (Warwickshire) Royal Garrison Artillery, formerly 831459, 2nd South Midland Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. Died 16th May 1918 aged 27. Son of Arthur and Elizabeth Gregson, of 14, Almshouse, Etwall, Derbyshire.

At rest in Cairo War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt


GREGSON Frank Sergeant PO/15775 Royal Marine Light Infantry on HMS Egmont (Shore Base) Malta. Born 19 January 1891 at Etwall, Derbyshire died 11 December 1918. Son of Arthur Gregson and Elizabeth nee Brookes of 14 Almshouses, Etwall, Derbyshire. At rest in Plot D grave 423. Capuccini Naval Cemetery, Malta. He is also commemorated on the Etwall War Memorial, Derbyshire.

N B. His dated of birth was taken from UK, British Army and Navy Birth, Marriage and Death Records, 1730-1960 (Ancestry) which shows that date. 1891


MANSFIELD Thomas. Private 5/85427, 91st Training Reserve Battalion, King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Died 6th March 1917 aged 18 at Newcastle on Tyne. Son John George and Ellen Mansfield, of 11, Radbourne Street, Ashbourne Road, Derby. At rest in St. Helen Church Cemetery, Etwall, Derbyshire


RUSHBY John. Private 5623, 1st/7th Northumberland Fusiliers.

Killed in action 15th January 1917 aged 20. Son of Samuel and Jane, nee Barlow. His widow Hilda Daisy, nee Smith was granted a war gratuity 17 May 1917 revised 20 October 1919 and 3 December 1919 At rest in Warlencourt British Cemetery, France.


SMITH George, Private 13127, 2nd Duke of Wellington's West Riding Regiment. Killed in action 18th August 1915 aged 17. Son of Isaac and Sarah Ann. His mother was granted a war gratuity 11 January 1916 revised 16 August 1919. At rest in Citadel New Military Cemetery, Fricourt, Somme, France


STATHAM Joseph. Private 13461, 11th Sherwood Foresters, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment. Killed in action 15th October 1916 aged 21. Son of William and Emma Statham, of 4, Almshouse, Etwall, Derbyshire. At rest in London Cemetery and Extension, Longueval, Somme, France.


SLATER John Charles. Private 60440, 15th Sherwood Foresters, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment. Killed in action 20th October 1918 aged 21. Son of James and Louisa of (1911), Almshouses, Etwall, Derbyshire. At rest in Bissegem Communal Cemetery. Belgium

Son of Edwin Toon, of Spring Bank, Etwall, Derbyshire; husband of Helen Beatrice Toon, nee Grinstead of Ketleas, Beare Green, Dorking, Surrey was granted a war gratuity 7 January 1918 revised 17 November 1919. At rest in Warlincourt Halte British Cemetery, Saulty, France


WELCH Robert William. Private TR/6/2780, 53rd Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment. Died of wounds 7th April 1917 aged 18 at his home, Rugeley . Son of Robert Arthur and Ann Welch, of The Hepnalls Farm , Etwall. His father was granted a war gratuity 21 August 1917 revised 23 January 1918. Born in Derby in 1889 she was the daughter of Francis J and Emma J Whitaker, former wife of Frank William Barnett, wife of Major Thomas Henry Bishop.
