Died after discharge 27 July 1923 aged 39 of chronic nephritis (inflammation of the kidneys) and syncope. At rest in Wakapuaka Cemetery, New Zealand.

Enlisted 6 July 1915. Next of kin was her sister Mrs Helen Elizabeth Wise of Days Bay, Wellington New Zealand.

10 July 1915 embarked Wellington New Zealand on No1 N.Z. Hospital Ship Maheno 10 July 1915 for Port Said, Egypt.
18 August 1915 duty at No 21 General Hospital Alexandria at Egyptian Army Barracks at Ras-el-Tin, Egypt.
20 November 1915 invalided to New Zealand from Port Said, Egypt on troopship Tahiti
30 December 1916 promoted to Sister and embarked same day from Wellington New Zealand on H.T (Hire Transport) 72, S.S. Athenic, with the 20th Reinforcements, disembarking Devonport Devon England 3 March 1917. Posted to duty at No 2 New Zealand General Hospital Walton-on-Thames Surrey on the 5th March
16 May 1919 embarked London for New Zealand on ship Prinzessin
19 August 1920 she was on a Medical Board at Military Hospital Trentham Camp New Zealand. Disability, probably nephritis. Discharged to medical pension 19 October 1919
1 February 1920 she was struck of the strength of the N.Z. Expeditionary Force and placed on Active Territorial Service. Struck of Active Territorial list and placed on the reserve 31 July 1920.

Whilst nursing on active service she suffered from an enlargement of her heart following chronic Bright’s disease. Place and date of origin not recorded.

12 October 1921 now called Ethel Spear.

Died after discharge at Nelson Hospital South Island New Zealand 27 July 1923 aged 39 of chronic nephritis (inflammation of the kidneys) and syncope. (fainting or passing out). Death result of her war service
