He joined up on the 13th September 1911 at Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales aged 18 and served with the 3rd King's Shropshire Light Infantry as private 5841. Home address, Worcester, next of kin was his parents, John and Mary and sister Emily all of 17, Bland Terrace, Liverpool, occupation, haulier. He was transferred on the expiration of his period of service to join the regular army on the 23rd July 1911. On the 24th July 1911 he joined the Royal Army Medical Corps and sent to Aldershot Royal Army Medical Corps training school as private 5617 aged 18 and 9 months. Occupation, porter and was born in Worcestershire. His next of kin was his parents John and Emily and sister, Emily of at West Daly, Liverpool. He fought in France and was at one stage admitted into No3 Stationary Hospital, Boulogne on the 10th January 1915. He was posted to Malta on the 24th August 1915 to the 1st January 1919 in which time he was married twice and his first wife died. His first marriage was to Esther Sophia Cristodolo on the 27th October 1915 at Sliema. (she died in 1917) He remarried on the 18th March 1918 to Lavina Mifsud in Malta. He embarked for England on the 2nd January 1919 and was discharged to pension suffering from Tuberculosis of the Lung on the 9th February 1919 to his new employment at New Canteen, Whitecross Wire Works, Warrington, Cheshire.
