ESPLEY John Henry, Driver 71129, Royal Field Artillery died on the 30th March 1918 aged 22. He was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth In 1911 he was living with his parents and siblings, (one being William who also fell), at 24, Spring Vale Street, Willenhall, Staffordshire. He is at rest in Bentley Cemetery, Willenhall, Staffordshire.
Some notes from remains of his army record. He enlisted in the 11th January 1915 at Darlaston, Staffordshire. he was aged 19 years and 97 days and was employed prior to enlistement at a horse driver. On the 12th February 1915 he was posted to No 6 Depot, Royal Field Artillery as Driver 71129. On the 21st June 1915 he was posted to 3rd Reserve Brigade. On the 31st August 1918 he was medically discharged from the army under Para 392 (XVI) King's Regulation. while serving with the 17th Reserve Battery, Royal Field Artillery. Medical Board on the 27th July 1915 at No 1 Voluntary Aid, Military Hospital, Exeter, formerly the Eye Hospital. found that he was suffering from Valvular Disease of the Heart. Three years prior, he suffered from Rheumatic Fever.
