Died 11/10/1918 aged 20
Born 25 December 1898.
Son of William and Elizabeth Mc Kinness (nee Dean) who married in 1895 at St Luke’s Church, Wellington, Stoke on Trent.
1916 enlisted aged 17 years and 11 months, residing at 22 Brighton Street, Hanley, occupation apprentice placer in pottery.
2 November 1916 transferred to Army Reserve.
19 March 1917, at Nottingham he joined 21st Nottingham Yeomanry aged 18 years and 6 months. 20 December 1917 in France.
19 December 1917 on a compulsory transfer as private to Sherwood Foresters and was to maintain his former rate of pay.
26 May 1918 posted to 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters. Served 296 days in France until his death. Total army service 1 year and 344 days.
A war gratuity was awarded to his father William 22 February 1919, revised 9 December 1919.
At rest at Brancourt-Le-Grand Military Cemetery, Aisne, France
