WHITFIELD Ernest Joseph. Private 3858881, 8th Manchester Regiment killed in action 10 August 1944 in Italy. He was the son of John Henry and Miriam Evelyn of Culcheth. He is commemorated on a family memorial in Newchurch, churchyard, Culcheth, Lancashire and he is at rest in Arezzo War Cemetery, Italy
