Ellen Isabel CALLANDER, nee Wright Born on the 20th December 1881 at Northrepps Norfolk to William and Isabell. Baptised on the 19th March 1882 at Northrepps Church, married on the 29th December 1902 and died 27th February 1910 aged 28 wife of Sergeant George Irwin Callander, Royal Artillery . They were married on the 29th December 1902 at St Margarets, Plumstead, Greenwich. In 1891 she was living with her parents at Southrepps Road, Northrepps, 1901 a servant working at the Hampden Club Somers Town, London aged 1901

Some information about George Irwin Callander
Sergeant George Irwin Callander was the son of George and Sarah Ann, nee Cluterbuck. His mother died in India between 1881 and 1890 along with his sister, Millicent. His father was a serving soldier with the band of the 2nd Highland Light Infantry as Bandsman 59-1528. In 1881 his father was stationed at Maryhill Barracks, Lanarkshire with his mother and sister Millicent. 1891 he and his father now a widower were living at his gran's home, Milicent Clifford at 5 Sigbert Road Greenwich. On 27th July 1895 aged 14 and 1 month he joined the army as Boy Soldier and posted as Boy 10630 Royal Garrison Artillery, occupation prior to enlistment was a mender. On the 1st January 1896 promoted to Trumpeter, then Musket Gunner on the 27th July 1897, Bombardier on the 11 April 1900, Corporal 7th June 1901, Sergeant 15th April 1902, Re-engaged at Woolwich on the 24th September 1906 to extend his service for such time to complete 21 years service. Promoted to Colour Sergeant 13th May 1911, stationed in Malta aged 29 as Orderly Room Sergeant (Clerk) Promoted to Company Sergeant Major (CSM) 20th January 1914, Quartermaster Sergeant 13th May 1914 and Acting WO1 30th June 1915.

He was discharged from the army as A/WO1 aged 37 after serving 23 years and 208 days on the 10th March 1919. He served in Malta from the 6th January 1909 to 19th February 1914 and with the British Expeditionary Force, France from the 31st May 1915 to 21st January 1919. other time posted to Uk.

He died 19th March 1944 at 9 Dewey Street, Tooting London with his wife Alice nee Holdstock, occupation, Clerk of Ministry of Pensions.



Please note. The very first burial that took place in this cemetery was in 1899 of baby Lilian Ada Wood in P1.R1G1. This grave is opposite the original grave 1 For some reason there are three separate graves with the same grave number and location. The other grave being Louisa Emmaline Dark.
