Glamorgan Advertiser - Friday 17 October 1919 -
Funeral of a Caerau Nurse. Military Honours.
The funeral of Miss Elizabeth Davies, 1 Tonna Road, Caerau, took place on Thursday in the last week and was marked by impressive tokens of respect and sorrow. The deceased was a V.A.D., having volunteered for service during the war and had three and half years at Netley and Winchester Hospitals. She was only 19 years of age and passed away very suddenly. A firing party from Cardiff attended, this being, it is believed, the first occasion in which such honour has been paid to a nurse in South Wales. The cortege was led by soldiers, who were followed by the Salvation Army Band. Then came about 200 discharged men, after them the manual of the Fire Brigade, on which rested the coffin, which was covered with floral tributes. The bearers were eight nurses in full hospital uniform. After the engine and firemen came a number of other nurses and members of the W.A.A.C. A good muster of ambulance men turned out in uniform. The Rev. Mr Morgan of Caersalem officiated and gave a touching address at the graveside.
