War Grave
Midshipman, Edward Macdonald Hay CHAPMAN, Royal Navy Reserve of the P and O. S.S. Himalaya, eldest son of Reverend Joseph Chapman of St Paul's Vicarage, Sale, Cheshire died at Malta on the 29th November 1919 from enteric fever aged 18. He was an apprentice on board S.S. Himalaya. His mother was Violet Mary Gwendoline nee Hay. He was baptised 17th November 1901 at Chorlton-upon-Medlock, Lancashire. In 1911 aged 9 he was living with his parents and siblings at 77, Lansdowne Road, West Didsbury, Manchester. (Uk, Navy List, 1888-1970, Ancestry) 6th May 1918 while stationed at Yarmouth became Temporary Midshipman.
At rest in Ta Braxia Cemetery, Malta.
CWGC, N.B. Resent research has shown that midshipman Chapman is buried here. The commission is in the process of producing a headstone to mark his grave.
Original headstone photographed in September 2015, by the author. The headstone was on the ground, near other memorials. It appears that the broken headstone were put together. in a vacant plot
It was not the same location as the new headstone has been placed.
