Pioneer 192243, Edward Hugh SMITH. Royal Engineers, died 14th May 1919 aged 35.


Information from his (Burnt Record of which are two and very confusing) Enlisted at Welshpool 30th September 1914 as Pte 2589, Montgomershire Yeomanry. His address was given as Ashford in the Water which is near Bakewell, Derbyshire and occupation was given as Butcher. next of kin was his wife Ada nee Kilner of 123, Primrose Street, Openshaw, Manchester. On discharge from the army at Aldershotas being medically unfit (T.B.) he was Driver 104459, of the 228th Field Company, Royal Engineers. He then attested 7th August 1915 Occupation as Dairyman place of birth, Bakewell as Pte 104459, Royal Engineers address given as 69, Brideoak Street, Hightown, Manchester his wife Ada next of kin. On the 9th August 1916 he re-enlisted, previous servce was given Pte 104459, Royal Engineers, discharged medically unfit. Address given as 152, Clifton Street, Brooks Bary, Manchester occupation, Horse Keeper He is now Pioneer 192243, Royal Engineers at Dunstable Signals Depot. He received a pension and his Chelsea Pension number was 98897E. He was the son of Charles Henry and Mary Eliza of 19, Ducie St Oxford Road, Manchester His father was a Grocer Buried in Bakewell Cemetery, Derbyshire
