Born at Acocks Green, South of Birmingham to Alfred and Eliza Anne Fieldhouse In 1911 he was living with his parents at School House, Dunham-on-Trent, Newark, Nottinghamshire, occupation, bakers assistant. At rest in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium.

He embarked from Southhampton with the BBB Reinforcements on the 18 August 1916 disembarking the next morning at Rouen. On the 2nd July 1917 he was killed in action in France. His personal property was dispatched to Miss Maud Raggall of Dunham on Trent, Newark, Nottinghamshire.

Private 40490 Charles SANSOM. 16th Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment) killed in action 31 July 1917 aged 28. Son of Abraham and Lucy nee Stockdale, husband of Annie nee Johnson, of North Scarle, Newark. In 1901 he was living with his parents and siblings at Dunham on Trent. 1911 he was waggoner of the farm of Stephen Wells of South Scarle Collingham, Newark, Nottinghamshire. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.

Private 52501 George Edward BACON. 2nd Sherwood Foresters, (Notts and Derby Regiment) died 21st March 1918. Son of John Bacon and Elizabeth, nee Clay, husband of Lillie ne Stacey who was granted a war gratuity on the 17 September 1919. In 1891 he was living with his parents and siblings at Horn Lane, Dunham on Trent. 1911 now married and living with his wife, Lillie and children, John William aged 4, Lillian aged 3, Allice aged 11 months and Florrie aged 1 months all at 13 Penny's Yard, Gainsboro, Lincolnshire. Private 203786 George William TURNER. 16 Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment) died of wounds 2 May 1918 aged 20. Son of George and Fanny Turner, of Dunham-on-Trent, Newark. He was baptised on the 16 February 1898 at St Luke, Weaste. His parents were living at 10, Bentleys Buildings, Weaste, In 1911 he was living with his parents and siblings at 123 Bridson Street, Weaste, Manchester. His mother, Fanny, was granted a war gratuity 14 September 1918 revised 29 November 1919. At rest in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, France.

He enlisted age 18 years and 5 months on the 11 September 1916 at Retford occupation, groom and his mother was his next of kin. He joined the Sherwoods at the Depot in Derby on the 18 May 1917. After he had completed his training he embarked for France 12 October 1917 disembarking the same day. Marched into 14 Infantry Base Depot, Etaples 13 October 1917 to await dispersal to his regiment. He was posted to the 16 Sherwood Foresters on the 17 October 1917 and joined them in the field 20 October 1917. Whilst in action he was shot in the head on the 17 April 1918 and was treated at 108 Field Ambulance. He was transferred, date not known, to 2nd Australian General Hospital, Rouen where he died of his wounds on the 2 May 1918.
Private 40273 Herbert SKELTON. 2 Loyal North Lancashire Regiment killed in action 29 July 1918 aged 23 Son of George and Jane Elizabeth of Dunham-on-Trent and brother of George who died at home after being discharged from the army His mother was granted a war gratuity on the 18 November 1918 revised 3 December 1919. At rest in Raperie British Cemetery, Villemontoire, France.

He joined up on the 6 September 1914 aged 19 years and 340 days. Occupation prior to enlistment, farm labourer and lived at Dunham-on-Trent. He was posted as Private 12248 8th Lincolnshire Regiment. Transferred at Private 2248 on the 15 May 1916 to the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Finally transferred as Private 40273 on the 2 August 1917, 2nd Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. He was in France from the 14th July 1915 until his death.

Shoeing Smith 275948 Alfred Cecil HEALD. Nottingham Yeomanry (Sherwood Rangers). Born in 1892 in South Clfton the son of Richard Heald and Mary Jane (nee Tinker) . In the 1901 he is living with his widowed father and siblings at London Row, South Clifton. He died 31st March 1919 aged 27 of pneumonia. His widow, Alice was granted a war gratuity on the 14 January 1920 revised 2 February 1920.

He was discharged from the army on the 20 April 1919 to home at Dunham on Trent .

Private 41148 John TALBOT. 8th Royal Lancaster Regiment died of wounds 28 September 1918 aged 19. Son of John and Drusilla Talbot, nee Thompson of Dunham-on-Trent, Newark. In 1911 he was living with his parents at Dunham on Trent. His father was granted a war gratuity on the 18 February 1920. At rest in Grenvillers British Cemetery, France.

Private 117645 Ronald Griffiths BEAT. Sherwood Foresters, (Notts and Derby Regiment) died of wounds 10 October 1918 which he received in action. James and Harriet, of Dunham-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire brother of Alec who also fell. His mother Harriet was granted a war gratuity. Some note from what remains of his army record. He joined up aged 18 years and 1 month on the 19 May 1916 and was transferred to the army reserve to await mobilisation. He lived at Dunham-on-Trent, occupation Groom and Gardner, his father was his next of kin. On the 25 May 1918 he was mobilised and posted to the 3rd Sherwood Foresters for training. On the 23rd September 1918 he was with the British Expeditionard Force in France. The 10th October 1918 reported missing, later presumed killed in action between 8th and 10th September. He first joined up on the 20 July 1897 at Newark aged 18 years and 3 months. He was posted to the 3rd Manchester Regiment as Private 5147. He served in Gibraltar, South Africa (Boer War) and Singapore. His conduct sheets were somewhat disobedient. He spent quite a lot of time confined to barracks (C B) and loss of pay. He was discharged, period of engagement with the colours had expired July 1909.
He re-joined on the 18th November 1916 aged 37. He was posted to B Coy 2/8th Manchester Regiment as Private 7542. After his training he was posted to join the British Exepeditionary Force (BEF) in France. Embarking from Folkstone 14 March 1917 disembarking the same day at Boulogne. Whilts in the field he was taken ill with feet problem on the 13th October 1917. He was treated at 2/3 East Lancashire Field Ambulance, transferred the same day to No 3 Australian Casualty Clearing Station. On the 15 October 1917 he was at No 8 Stationary Hospital, Wimereux, France and then invalided to a hospital in England on the 19th October. When he was discharged from hospital he was transferred on the 9 April 1918 to the 5th Reserve Machine Gun Corps as Private 144738 at Grantham. Discharged from the army to Class Z on the 1 March 1919 to his home at Dunham on Trent where he died on the 30 September 1919 of pulmonary infarction.

Born at Kelby Lincolnshire to Frederick and Mary Ann Couling, of Risby, Tealby, Lincolnshire. His father was granted a war gratuity on the 14 June 1916 revised 23 August 1919. Commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.

Lance Corporal 18788 Charles Henry HAYES. 7 Lincolnshire Regiment Born in Boston, Lincolnshire and resided at Ragnall, Nottinghamshire. Killed in action 3 November 1916. In 1891 aged 2 years he was living at 12 Marks at 12 St Marks Lane , St Marks, Lincoln with his parents, George and Phoebe. His father was granted a war gratuity 13 February 1917 revised 7 November 1912. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

Trooper 2865, George (Ranji) WILSON. , 1/3rd Lincolnshire Yeomanry, died 23 October 1917 aged 19. Born in 1898 at Cardiff, Glamorgan to Thomas Henry and Elizabeth Ann Wilson, nee Styles. In 1911 he is living father, remarried, and step mother at 159 Clare Road, Cardiff. He is at rest in St Oswald Churchyard, Ragnall, Nottinghamshire. Not listed with the CWGC. His medal card shows he enlisted 26 October 1915 and discharged Para 392 (XVI) Kings Regulation on the 26 September 1916. Rank Private 2865, Lincolnshire Yeomanry.

Enlisted aged 26 years and 37 days on the 31st January 1916, posted to Army Reserve 1st February 1916, mobilized 17th July 19 and posted to No 4 Depot, Royal Garrison Artillery on the 19th July 1916. He married Alice Maude Mary Newbert on the 23rd December 1913 at Dalton, Retford, Nottinghamshire. They had on child, Charles Edward born 6th October 1914 at Dalton. On the 29th November 1916 he embarked from Southampton, disembarked Le Harve samed day. On the 19 May 1917 he received gunshot wounds to his left arm, buttock, leg and right thigh. He was admitted to No 1 North Midland Field Ambulance on the 29th, transferred to No 1 Casualty Clearing Station wher he died of his wounds 20th May 1917.

Private 242108 William CREE. 6th Border Regiment, fornerly 47947, Notts and Derby Regiment died 23 August 1917 aged 20. Son of Robert and Mary Elizabeth Cree, of Ragnall, Newark, Nottinghamshire. In 1901 he was living with his parents and siblings at Clarks Lane, Great North Road, Tuxford Nottinghamshire. 1911 he was a farm servant to farmer John Bagshaw at Laxton, Newark, Notts. His father was granted a war gratuity 20 December 1917 revised 5 November 1919.
