This memorial is situated at the Upper Barrakka Gardens, Valletta, Malta.



In memory of their comrades who have fallen during the Siege of Malta 1940 – 1943

2nd Lieutenant 117691 Peter Ernest Hay DALE. Born 1920 to Kenneth Hay and Francesca Susanna Dale, nee Hoffman of Kampala, Uganda. Killed on the 12th July 1941 aged 21 years. He was a passenger on a Vickers Wellington Bomber Z8775 of 15 Operational Training Unit RAF Luqa, Malta which crashed at Safi Landing Strip, St Nicola, Malta after getting airborne from RAF Luqa. He and the air crew, total of seven all perished. The other six are at rest in Capuccini Naval Cemetery, Malta.

Private 5725764 George Victor DAVIES. Born 1919 to George and Lily Davies, of Hockley, Birmingham. Died 2 June 1941 aged 22 years.

Warrant Officer II, (CSM) 2815185 Berkley Alfred EVANS. Born 1900 Baptised 4 November 1900 at Sherborne parish church. Son of John and Emma Jane Evans, nee Toop. 1901 with his parents and siblings at 101 Coombe, Sherborne. 1911 with his parents and siblings at Higher Acreman Street, Sherborne, Dorset. Husband of Margaret Ann Evans, of Hendford, Yeovil, Somerset. On the 2nd March 1915 he joined up aged 19 and 2 months into the 4th Dorsetshire Regiment number 3434. He lived with his parents at 12 Laudborne Road, Sherborn, Dorsetshire. His occupation prior to enlistment was a grocer’s assistant. On the 12th November 1915 he was absent from the 7-30 roll call (muster parade) He was confined to barracks for 5 days. He was discharged from the army 26th November 1915 for being under the age of 17 years at the date of application. Discharged under Para 392 (VI) Kings Regulations. At some later date he re-joined His medal card show the his was Private 17659 Coldstream Guards, Private 129364 45th Royal Fusiliers, Private 2815185 Seaforth Highlanders and Dorsetshire Regiment.

2nd Lieutenant 109027 Guy Roger Edmund FOLLETT. Born 1914 to Mrs. L. R. Follett, of Bournemouth, Hampshire. (His surname at birth was COLE, Stepfather's surname was FOLLETT). Son of James Edward Cole and Lillian Rosa, nee Brown later remarried to B.C.P Follett of 58 Lowther Road, Bournemouth, Hampshire. His effects went to Bertram Cyril Parry Follett, coal merchant, his Stepfather. Died 30th January 1941 aged 27 following an operation.

Corporal 804988 William Charles FOOTE. Born 1915 to Albert Thomas Foote and Florence Louisa Foote, of Parkstone. Dorsetshire. Instantly killed 1 April 1942 aged 27 years along with L/Cpl Pearce and Pte French. Wounded, LCpl Bell and Pte Garrett as the result of exploding bombs from a crashed Ju 87 in Malta.

Private 5733043 Ernest L Stanley FRENCH. Born 1920 in West Ham, Essex to George and Leonora French, nee Alabaster of Walthamstow, Essex. Husband of Florence Maud French, nee Segust of Walthamstow. Instantly killed 1 April 1942 aged 21 years along with Cpl Foote and L/Cpl Pearce. Wounded LCpl Bell and Pte Garrett as the result of exploding bombs from a crashed Ju 87 in Malta.

Private 5725620 George Edward Le PREVOST. Born 1916 to Thomas and Helena Le Prevost, of St. Peter Port, Guernsey, Channel Islands. Died of extensive burns 12th July 1940, aged 24 years. caused by the shooting down an Italian aircraft by Flying Officer Frederic Taylor which crashed in flames near Fort San Leonardo severely damaging a nearby Post RA6 which houses B Coy, 1st Dorsetshire Regiment. The other soldier to die was Lance Corporal Maurice Andrew William Malcolm.
