Dorothy Gwendoline ASPLIN. Daughter of Rose (nee Swallow) and Sergeant H.C. Asplin, 2nd Northamptonshire Regiment. Born 25th November 1912 in Valletta and died 27th November 1913 aged 1 year in Valletta Malta.

Her fathers correct names was Charles Harry Bertram Asplin. On the 27th November 1910 Charles Harry Bertram Asplin aged 31 married Rose Swallow aged 24 at St Sepulchre parish church of Northampton. He was a sergeant in the army stationed at Colchester son of William a labourer. Rose was the daughter of William John Swallow a riveter. (Wills and Admin, Ancestry.co.uk) Harry Charles others wise known as Charles Harry of 1 Greens Norton Road, Towcester died on the 10th January 1947 at General Hospital Northampton his effects went to Rose (aged 70). Also same source, Rose died at the same hospital on the 28th August 1960 she was living at 38 Watling Street, Towcester Northamptonshire. Her effects went to her son Dennis Harry Bertram, grocery manager.

Charles Harry Bertram Asplin. Some notes from what remains of his army records.
He joined up at Wellingborough Northamptonshire on the 18th June 1896 aged 19 occupation labourer. He was posted to the Depot of the Northamptonshire Regiment. He fought in the Boer War from 1899 to 1902. Served in Malta from the 25th January 1911 and then in Alexandria, Egypt on the 21st January 1914, His family also accompanied him on his last two postings. He fought in France with the British Expeditionary Force from the 4th November 1914 to 17th May 1915. His family had moved back to Northampton for this period. On the 23rd September 1919 he was discharged to pension from the army with the rank of A/RSM with an injury to his back. His family were at this time living at 65 Newington Road Kingsthorpe Northamptonshire.

Their children were Elsie May born on the 30th August 1911 at Valletta. Dorothy Gwendoline born in Valletta 25th November 1912 and died 27th November 1913 in Valletta. Doreen Grace was born in Alexandria, Egypt on the 1st June 1914, Vera Constance was born in Northampton on the 15th January 1917. Dennis Harry Bertram was born in Northampton on the 21st January 1919.
Promotions. Lance Corporal 23rd April 1898 Corporal 13th May 1898 Sergeant 7th June 1902 Colour Sergeant 2nd December 1911 Company Sergeant Major 17th March 1915 Warrant Officer Class 2 and then Acting Regimental Sergeant Major both the same day, 19th April 1917.
He was awarded Distinguished Conduct Medal for during the attack on Neuve Chappelle he commanded half a company with great gallantry and ably assisted his company commander after all his officers had been killed. Supplement to the London Gazette dated June 19th 1915.
Also awarded the Cross of the Order of St George 4th Class (Russian) London Gazette dated 28th August 1915.
