DAVIES William Alfred

DAVIES William Alfred, Lance Corporal 33207, 15th Cheshire Regiment who fell in action on the 25th May 1918 aged 22. He was the only son of James and Agnes of 134 Weaver Street, Winsford, Cheshire. He is commemorated on the war grave memorial of Sapper William Such in St Chad's Churchyard, Over, Cheshire and is laid to rest in Varennes British Cemetery, France

He enlisted on the 27th January 1916 and was posted to the 3rd Cheshire Regiment at Chester. He gave his age as 20, occupation, railway clerk and his lived at 134 Weaver Street. His father was his next of kin. He was appointed the rank of Lance Corporal on the 8th March 1917. On the 15th September 1917 he embarked for France and disembarked the next day, 16th. The same day he marched into 4th Infantry Base Depot. he was posted to the 15th Battalion and he joined them on the 24th September 1917. He was posted to 2nd (looks like Corps) Infantry School, for duty with the Demonstration Platoon. He rejoined his unit on the 15th May 1918 and was killed in action on the 25th May 1918 with the rank of Lance Corporal. he had served 2yrs and 192 days with the colours.
