To the glory of God and in grateful memory of the men of Darltonl who fell in the Great War 1914- 1918.


2nd Lieutenant Arthur Selby JACKSON. 9th King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry died 16th September 1916 aged 26. Only son of Richard Miller and Anna Jackson, of Darlton, Nott inghamshire.
Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

Wills and Admin, Ancestry. He lived at Darlton, Nottinghamshire and died on date stated. His effects went to his father, Richard Miller Jackson, retired.


Private 5623 John RUSHBY. 1/7th Northumberland Fusiliers killed in action 15 January 1917. Born at Etwall, Derbyshire to Samuel and Jane nee Barlow, husband of Hilda Daisey nee Smith. In 1901 he was living with his parents at Grovers Moor, Grove, Nottinghamshire. His widow was granted a war gratuity 17 May 1917, revised 29 October 1919 and 3 December 1919.

Gunner 104598 Harry LOBLEY. 212th Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery died of wounds 20 May 1917 aged 27. He was the son of John James and Louisa Lobley, husband of Alice Maud Mary Lobley of Ragnall, Newark, Nottinghamshire.
At rest in Chocques Military Cemetery, France.

Some notes from what remains of his army records.

Enlisted aged 26 years and 37 days on the 31st January 1916, posted to Army Reserve 1st February 1916, mobilized 17th July 19 and posted to No 4 Depot, Royal Garrison Artillery on the 19th July 1916. He married Alice Maude Mary Newbert on the 23rd December 1913 at Dalton, Retford, Nottinghamshire. They had on child, Charles Edward born 6th October 1914 at Dalton. On the 29th November 1916 he embarked from Southampton, disembarked Le Harve samed day. On the 19 May 1917 he received gunshot wounds to his left arm, buttock, leg and right thigh. He was admitted to No 1 North Midland Field Ambulance on the 29th, transferred to No 1 Casualty Clearing Station wher he died of his wounds 20th May 1917.


Private 242108 William CREE. 6th Border Regiment, fornerly 47947, Notts and Derby Regiment died 23 August 1917 aged 20. Son of Robert and Mary Elizabeth Cree, of Ragnall, Newark, Nottinghamshire. In 1901 he was living with his parents and siblings at Clarks Lane, Great North Road, Tuxford Nottinghamshire. 1911 he was a farm servant to farmer John Bagshaw at Laxton, Newark, Notts. His father was granted a war gratuity 20 December 1917 revised 5 November 1919.
At rest in Cement House Cemetery, Belgium.


Gunner, Signaller L/26644 Walter WOOD. D Battery, 161st Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, killed in action 4 October 1918. He was born in 1890 at Darlton, Nottingham to William and Mary. 1911, aged 21 still at home with his parents at Darlton, occupation farm labourer. His father was granted a war gratuity 30 December 1918 revised 8 December 1919.
At rest in La Baraque British Cemetery, Bellenglise, France.
