D477 Gilbert Harold Thomas CHANCE Ables Seaman J43099 Royal Navy on HMS Benbow. Born 22 January 1900 at Harrow Middlesex to Gilbert and Kate Chance, nee Coker. 1911 residing with his parents at 47 Fearney Street, Watford occupation errand boy. Enlisted 10 August 1915 as Boy Class II on HMS Ganges. At the age of 18 years engaged for a period of 12 years 22 January 1918. Died aged 21 years died 20 October 1921 at Royal Naval Hospital Bighi, Malta of Vincent angina, (k/a trench mouth) septicaemia and cardiac failure.
