Cyril William WINTERBOTHAM. Lieutenant, C Company 1/5th Gloucestershire Regiment killed in action 27th August 1916. He was the son of James Batten and Eliza Hunter, nee McLaren. In 1891 he was living with his parents and siblings at Cranley Lodge, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. In 1911 he boarding at 14 Campden House Road, Kenginston, London, now a law student, his father is a solicitor.
(Wills and Admin, Ancestry). His address in England was 2 Temple Gardens, Middlesex. His effects went to his mother, now a widow and Reverend John Brend Winterbotham.
Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
The image shows. Three medals and bronze memorial plaque with certificated. 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal and Allied Victory Medal. Awarded to Lieutenant Winterbotham is held and on display at the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum. Commercial Rd, Gloucester GL1 2HE.
