BISHTON, Daniel James

Lance Bombardier 290546, Daniel James BISHTON, 38th Heavy Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery died 27th December 1918 aged 22.

He was the son of Edgar and Jessie of Wheaton Aston, Staffordshire and he is at rest in All Saints churchyard, Lapley, Staffordshire
Some notes from what is left of his army record.
He joined the army at Chester 8th June 1915 to General Service as Private W/260, Royal Garrison Artillery. His occupation was a farm labourer, his age was 17 years and 56 days. His mother Jessie of Wheaton Aston was his next of kin.
Between the dates of 5th January 1916 and the 11th January 1916 he was in hospital at the Royal Herbert, Woolwich with Scabies.
He embarked at Southampton on the 28th March 1916 and Disembarked at Le Havre on the 30th March 1916 (I wonder why it took so long!!) On the 23rd February 1917 in the field he was allotted a new army number as 290546.
The 18th September 1918 he was gassed (Mustard) and taken to an aid post (no details of what he movement were prior to being sent to England). On the 21st September he was invalided to England on Hospital Ship, Princess Elizabeth and admitted to 1st Southern General Hospital, Edgbaston, Birmingham suffering with the effects of mustard gas. He died in hospital on the 27th January 1918
