On initial impact of the bomb the gas alarm went off for some reason, everyone put gas masks on. As roving patrol after damage control I had left mine further aft and had to proceed to find it. On opening the door I had to wade in water to find my mask, it was right next to the bomb hole. I put mask on breathed out and then saw what I thought was the bomb so I shouted bomb while scrambling through people to get foreward. Turned out it was just a piece of the bomb but I wasnt taking any chances. I patched the hole up temporary to stop sea water ingressing and later undid this to take this photo.
