Its hard to decipher this image, is he upset at the loss of a friend or terrified about an ongoing attack on his position etc etc....in any case his pal seems to be giving him some stern words of compassion.
Looking at his pants i'd say the latter, A sorry state of things is towards the end of the war, many more children were pressganged in to service on the front line. This guy look's like he just reached his early teens.
...........and maybe the edge of his limits. I posted this as a reminder to any who think war is a game that it is not, no matter the side you are on. The insane part of war is maybe the next day that kid single handedly Panzerfausted a T34........War is Hell...Lest we Forget!!
