The FV 432 is the armoured personnel carrier variant of the British Army's FV 430 series of armoured fighting vehicles. Since its introduction it has been the most common variant used for transporting infantry on the battlefield.
The FV430 chassis is a conventional tracked design with the engine at the front and the driving position to the right. There is a large split-hatch round opening in the passenger compartment roof and a side-hinged door in the rear for loading and unloading. In common with such an old design there are no fireports for the use of troops carried - British Army doctrine has always been to dismount from vehicles to fight. Although the FV 432 Series was going to be phased out of service while replaced by newer vehicles such as the Warrior they are now gradually being upgraded to extend their service through into the next decade. The improvements take the form of an engine upgrade, new steering unit, and new braking system.
The FV 430 variants are or have been used for the following roles in the British Army
* Command Vehicle.
* Ambulance.
* Recovery Vehicle.
* 81 mm Mortar carrier
* Anti tank Missile teams carrier.
* Cymbeline mortar detection radar.
* Field artillery control.
To give improved support firepower over the pintle mount L7 GPMG or Bren gun some vehicle have been modified with turreted weapons such as the 30 mm cannon equipped turret from the FV107 Scimitar armoured reconnaissance vehicle or a Peak Engineering L7 A2 GMPG turret.
