A German soldier trying to dig himself out after being buried after a bombardment. He became a POW soon after. Normandy, 1944.
The soldier was from the Müller combat group, which defended the settlement of Quineville in Lower Normandy. This improvised combat group consisted of three battalions of the 243rd Wehrmacht Infantry Division, a battalion of the 709th Infantry Division and artillery units.
Quineville was captured on June 14, 1944 by soldiers of the US 9th Infantry Division.
